Joanné Schoeman
ABOUT
Joanné Schoeman is a speech-language therapist based in the seaside town of Hermanus, Western Cape. Her practice provides evidence-based services within a multidisciplinary team. She established her practice in 2014 due to a need for a speech-language therapist in her town. The practice has since expanded to include Caledon and Stanford, thus providing services to children and adults across the Overberg region.
Children are seen in the practice if they have feeding difficulties, speech and language delays, linguistically-related auditory processing difficulties, reading and spelling difficulties and, for the older children, difficulty acquiring academic language. Adults are assisted with voice problems, swallowing difficulties or any speech and languages difficulties that hinder communication.
Joanné obtained her Master’s Degree cum laude in 2016 from the University of Pretoria and is currently busy with her Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology. She has a special interest in language, especially language as the foundation of all learning. As part of her Ph.D. she also assisted teachers to harness the language abilities of learners whose home language differs from the language of the classroom.
Joanné is passionate about teaching and learning and is constantly striving to increase her own knowledge and skills. Through therapy, parent training and teacher training she helps children and adults reach their full potential, since communication is the essence of human life.
